Inception ended before it started

Inception ended before it started

In·cep·tion: The beginning of something, such as an undertaking; a commencement.

I was super excited to go see Inception today at the Wehrenberg Galaxy 14 Cine in St. Louis. I usually always get a drink and then occasionally a medium to large popcorn, but today, for that movie, I decided to get the tub! My preferred seating is usually in the very back, because (1) you can overview the entire theater, and (2) you can be sure that no popcorn hits your head during the showtime. To get a spot like that for a movie that came out yesterday, the rule of thumb is: arrive 30 minutes early -- which I did.

I'm seated in a half-packed theater and the stream of people did not stop. Maybe 10 minutes before the show was supposed to start, a Wehrenberg employee walks in and stands before us like Harry Potter when he was on trial for underage use of magic in the Order of the Phoenix. And no, I did not recall this scene from memory, I googled it. He announces: "Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention please. Unfortunately the projector in this theater is broken and the movie will not be showing at 7:30pm tonight. We are very sorry for the inconvenience. Outside the theater we have ticket replacements that are good anytime for any show. Thank you!"

I really thought it was a joke. This hasn't happened to me in the whole 24 years I've been alive... granted, I've only been going to the movies for 12 , but still, what a disappointment. Everyone immediately gets up, but I sit there, with my big, untouched tub of popcorn and my nearly full soda. I shake my head and drag down the stairs. Behind me I hear a couple talking to each other: "So, what did you think of the movie" and the other laughs: "Oh, it was fantastic. I loved the ending!"

A regular person would probably just go home now, but what am I going to do with my $12 amenities? It comes only natural to me to ask for a refund, I mean, otherwise this is like a bait and switch. So I go up to the counter and asked for a refund on my popcorn. I admit, it sounds kind of ridiculous now that I play it over in my head, but I wouldn't change a thing. The cashier didn't even hesitate after I explained my situation.

Here is the kicker though:

My dad also went to see the movie today. Actually, he went to a 7:00pm showing at another theater. He called me after seeing the movie, because he knew I wanted to see it, but he didn't know it was today. To my surprise, he told me that the movie was awful. He continued that people were falling asleep and that the story confused most of the audience. After hearing that, I didn't feel bad at all.

What's the moral of the story? When something bad happens, it may really just happen for a reason. Now I have two tickets to use anytime for any showing, but the best part is, I can actually use it on a movie that may be a little better than Inception. It's like I was given another chance :) .
